Influencing Skills

In today’s highly competitive business world, the ability to influence the outcome of a meeting, presentation, etc. in a compelling and persuasive way is one of the most
powerful tools you will have as a leader
.

Does any of the following scenarios seem familiar?
The Influencing skills training will equip you to deal with them effectively.
  1. You are coordinating a training class. The trainer who you want to use is the best for the job, well respected and knowledgeable in the field and most importantly a highly specialized skill in performance management which is the focus of your class. The rate for the trainer is higher than the budgeted costs, but the use of this trainer in your eyes far outweighs the budgetary impact. Your boss however, who controls the budget and approval, may not agree. How do you help influence the approval to use this trainer?
  2. You are part of a 4 person team that is tasked to reevaluate a particular policy. You and a peer agree on the direction that the policy should go. Your other peers do not. How can you influence their point of view?

  3. You are working with a manager on a TAD, and the manager is not providing the signed document in a timely manner. How can you influence this manager to make sure that the appropriate steps are taken to make that change to the employee’s status?
Some questions to verify your influencing ability
  • People pay attention to me on a regular basis.
  • I consider myself to be a resource for other employees.
  • I feel confident to speak up in meetings.
  • I offer help to others in my department.
  • My opinion is taken into account by others.
  • I am continuously aware of the way I present myself.
  • I am nervous when I have to speak up in meetings.
  • I attend networking events.
  • I listen to others when they are presenting their ideas.
  • When making a point, I focus on the benefits and articulate them clearly to my audience.
  • I feel that I am taken seriously.
